Human parasitosis in post-crisis nuclear leakage: A topic for concern in tropical medicine

The current post-crisis nuclear leakage originated in Japan is still the present hot issue of the world. Several health effects due to exposure to contaminated radioactive materials are the totally unwanted complication. Mainly, the carcinogenesis is the widely discussed topic. However, there are also other forgotten issues. The effect in tropical medicine aspect is little mentioned. In this specific brief article, the author briefly reviews and discusses on the pattern of human parasitosis in post-crisis nuclear leakage and further discuss on the relationship to leak nuclear particles.
The first thing to be discussed is on the change of parasite after crisis. Indeed, any living things exposed to the leak radioactive nuclides trends to get the health deterioration. For the parasite, there are some interesting reports. Genchi et al. studied on the morphological variations in nematode parasites after a radioactive fallout and found the high prevalence of teratologic forms.  However, there is no further following studies to describe the effect of mutation of the parasite and its relationship to infested host.
Effect on incidence of parasitosis is an interesting topic for further studies. There are some reports indicating the change of incidence of parasitosis. Labetskaia et al. noted that the pattern of incidence in small mammals was changed after Chernobyl crisis.  "Total increase of abundance and biodiversity of both parasites and their hosts was observed " in the report by Labetskaia et al. However, some large mammals such as horse show resistance to the change of the parasitosis pattern. 
Focusing on the human parasitosis, there are few reports. , Lavdovskaia et al. studied the prevalence of Cryptosporidium and Pneumocystis carinii infections in children living in the specific areas affected by radionuclides from Chernobyl and found that "long ionized radiation impairs the barrier function of mucosa" leading to significant increase incidence of parasitosis.  Lysenko et al. further studied on the increased incidence of Pneumocystis carinii infections and observed the co-increasing of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection.  Lysenko et al. observed "increased susceptibility to P. carinii and CMV in those children whose immune system was suppressed by premorbid factors or ionized radiation and peculiar symbiotic relationships of Pneumocystis carinii and CMV resulting in enhancement of their infectiousness. "
