Dear Sir,

Within the past few years, there have been many new emerging influenza infections that have led to global concern over a possible worldwide pandemic. Focusing on the clinical presentations of these new emerging influenza infections, atypical extrarespiratory tract presentations can be seen that have under the focus in medicine. The neurological presentation of new emerging influenzas is very interesting. Focusing on the recently emerging H7N9 influenza, many cases with neurological problems can be seen. [1],[2] The newest emerging H10N8 influenza has just been reported from China. The neurological problem in the indexed cases with this new emerging influenza is of interest and should be discussed. [3],[4],[5] Historically, the first case of H10N8 was observed in December 2013 in China. The patient was a 73-year-old woman who initially presented with flu-like syndrome. [3],[4],[5] This patient ended up with a multiple organ failure syndrome and died on day 9 after hospitalization. [3],[4],[5] In this case, the patient had several underlying conditions such as hypertension and coronary heart disease, and she also got a recent thymectomy for myasthenia gravis treatment. [3],[4],[5] This patient was under immunossupressive medication. [3],[4],[5] In this case, the patient showed a decreased level of consciousness that may have been a sign of a neurological condition. However, this finding may have been nonspecific since it could be an obvious finding in patients with multiple organ failure syndrome. After this case, there were two other cases out of whom, one died after hospitalization. Focusing on the other death case, the same clinical findings including alteration of consciousness could be observed. [3],[4],[5] Despite the fact that other influenza viruses have been associated with neurological problems, the present evidence on neurological problem is still inconclusive. It is still questionable whether H10N8 has a bearing on the central nervous system (CNS) or not. Nevertheless, it should be kept in mind that the new emerging H10N8 influenza infection might induce neurological problem. To answer the existing myth, close monitoring and further research on the exact pathogenesis focusing on the possibility of neuropathology of this new infection is recommended.
