Dear Sir,

Lung function is an important indicator for monitoring the health status of workers. It is widely used in occupational medicine for the screening of industrial workers.[1],[2] However, the application in nonindustrial workers can be rarely seen and is usually given less concern. Here, the authors report the results of spirometry screening results among a group of technology college personnel who have to teach daily and do research on physical engineering and industry. Out of 42 members of the college, spirometry results were normal in 35 cases, slightly restrictive disease was found in 6 cases, and obstructive disease in 1 case. Based on this finding, the problem of lung function among the focused workers is very common. Of interest, exposure to several chemicals during the routine teaching and researching might be the cause of high prevalence of restrictive lung disease. This trend is similar to the observation among the petrol pump workers who are exposed to volatile hydrocarbons.[3] The personnel of technology college usually smoke and this might be the cause of the lung problem as well.
