Estimated risk for Zika virus seropositivity among pregnant women in area with indexed case in Thailand

Dear Sir,

Zika virus infection becomes the public health problem at present.[1],[2],[3] The big concern is on the infected pregnant women because there are many reports on the microcephaly infant as a result of infection in pregnant women.[1],[2],[3] In Thailand, Zika virus infection is seen in some areas and the interesting concern is on the problem in the pregnant women. In general people, there is a recent publication in Asian Pac J Trop Med on seroepidemiology of Zika virus and there is an evidence of cooccurrence of seropositive between Zika virus and dengue virus.[4] The cooccurrence of Zika virus immunoreactivity among cases with dengue immunoreactivity is accounted for 13/17 (76.47%). In the period of emerging Zika virus in Thailand,[5] there is an interesting seroepidemiology report on dengue seropositivity among pregnant women from the province with indexed case, Ratchaburi. In that report, the dengue seropositivity rate among the pregnant women is equal to 97.2%.[6] Based on the mentioned data, it might estimate the possible Zika virus seropositivity among pregnant women in that area to be 74.34%. Of interest, this possible rate is considerably high. However, there is still no report on microcephaly in that mentioned area of Thailand.
