Rate of penicillin allergy among health people: Observation from screening penicillin skin test

The problem of drug allergy can be seen worldwide. It becomes an important concern in public health. The penicillin is a common antibiotic that can cause allergy and the penicillin allergy can be fatal. The data on the exact prevalence of penicillin allergy are very interesting. Of interest, Macy  noted that “millions of individuals falsely labeled with penicillin allergy need to be evaluated to safely allow them to use penicillin-class antibiotics and avoid morbidity associated with penicillin avoidance. Here, the authors report on rate of penicillin allergy among health people from an observation from screening penicillin-skin test. A group of health adult worker in a drug manufacturing factory was screened for possible penicillin allergy. From 35 screeners, the positive test can be seen in three cases, giving the rate equal to 8.57%. Of interest, all had no previous history of penicillin allergy. This rate is similar to the previous report by Macy.
This is an important information in public health pharmacology.
