Dear Sir,
Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a new emerging viral illness that causes high fatality. [1] It has been reported in many areas of East Asia. Important clinical features of this infection are fever and thrombocytopenia. However, there is an interesting issue on the clinical presentation of this infection. In the previous report by Joob and Chen in “Diagnostic and Therapeutic Study,” [2] there is no hemorrhagic presentation. This is also concordant with a previous report by Wang et al. [2] The remaining question is why no hemorrhagic presentation can be severe despite problematic thrombocytopenia that is common among cases with SFTS.
