Dear Sir,

A cafeteria is the main site for selling food to people. In schools and universities, several students and staff have to rely on food from the cafeterias. It is the basic rule to follow up the sanitation of the cafeterias. However, this is usually overlooked. Here, the authors report the first survey of a cafeteria in a university setting. The survey includes both microbiological and chemical contaminations. The result is shown in [Table 1]. It can be seen that the main problem is microbiological contamination. Only 16.7% of the overall studied food shops are considered free of positive coliform. Of interest is the fact that contamination in the utensils and on the cook's hand is common and this can indicate poor toilet practice among the studied food sellers at the cafeterias.
