Dear Sir,
Hernia is an important surgical disease in clinical practice. The weakness of inguinal muscle is the main cause of hernia. However, sometimes there can be some conditions that can mimic hernia. One such interesting condition in tropical medicine is inguinal hydatidosis mimicking irreducible inguinal hernia. Peritoneal hydatidosis herniating to the inguinal canal is rare, [1] but it is possible. In fact, this condition is extremely rare [examples of reports include Abdom Imaging. 2005 Sep-Oct;30(5):623-5; Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2002 May;66(5):575-7; Rev Cir Urug. 1965 Apr-Jun;35(2):187-9; J Pediatr Surg. 2007 Dec;42(12):e15-6; An Sist Sanit Navar. 2007 Sep-Dec;30(3):475-9; J Pediatr Surg. 2010 Aug;45(8):1717-9; and Pan Afr Med J. 2011;10:58]. The diagnosis of this parasitic infestation-induced hernia is usually difficult, and a surgical finding is usually the clue for definitive diagnosis. The important concern in the management of such cases is the use of antiparasitic drugs after surgical removal of the lesion. In addition, disseminated hydatid disease is possible; hence, it is necessary to perform a whole-body search for other possible sites of infestation. [2]
