Dear Sir,

Bufavirus is a new parvovirus that has just been proposed in the last few years. Whether this virus is pathogenic or not is still not conclusive. There are some recent reports on the finding of this virus in the stool of patients with gastrointestinal problems. [1],[2],[3],[4] Of interest is the fact that the finding of viral positive stool sample can be seen in different countries with different ethnic backgrounds around the world. There is an interesting question as to whether there is any difference of positive rates due to different ethnic groups. Here, the authors tried to collect the data on bufavirus positive rate in stool samples in four available reports [1],[2],[3],[4] [Table 1] among different ethnic groups (two reports on Mongoloid, one on Negroid, and one on Caucasoid). The reported rates range 0.27-4%. Statistical analysis showed no correlation between the rate and ethnic background (P > 0.05, chi-square test). It might conclude that the contamination by bufavirus in stool can be seen in any country without difference in rate regardless ethnic background.
