Dear Sir,

The problem of concurrent infection with dengue is very interesting. At present, the concern is on the new identified virus that might coinfect with dengue. Zuchi et al. noted that “other arboviruses may be silently circulating during dengue outbreaks.” [1] In fact, concomitant infection between dengue and other infectious pathogens is possible and this can be the forgotten issue. [2] The concurrent infection can be problematic and this can result in successful treatment of dengue illness. [2] Hence, it is no doubt that Mayaro virus infection can be seen as a concurrent infection with dengue. The important question is whether Mayaro virus infection contributes any additional clinical problem to the dengue virus-infected cases. There should be a discussion as to whether the finding of Mayaro virus is a silent finding, as noted by Zuchi et al[1] In fact, Mayaro virus infection usually causes arthralgia, [3] which is also common in dengue; hence, it might be overlooked as a silent concurrent finding.
